January 1, 2022
For the last several years, Carolina Classic Hits has partnered with RADIO COALITION, a non-profit organization dedicated to the enhancement and advancement of individually operated Internet radio stations. Our partnership with this non-profit organization has afforded us the advantage of a special "non-profit" royalty rate established by the US Library of Congress and paid to SoundExchange, the government appointed collection and distribution agency of DIGITAL performance royalties.
January 1, 2022, Radio Coalition, our partner in this entertainment venture, will be dissolved and Carolina Classic Hits will be obligated to pay the standard, adjusted annually, rate for royalties. The 2022 rate is 22 cents per 100 listeners for each individual song played. While this sounds like a small fee, the grand total PER MONTH exceeds $13,500. Our previous "non-profit" cost was around $200 per month. Most listeners tell me that Carolina Classic Hits sounds like a million dollars; in reality, it's a spare time "hobby" for me, powered by a 2009 refurbished Dell Optiplex 7010 computer, purchased from Walmart and residing in one of my home's closets.
The "Hits Will Keep On Coming" in 2022, but we will not be allowed to legally stream in the United States. However, a large bird by the name of "Chickenman" advises (for the sake of your online privacy, of course) that everyone considers using a VPN, "Tunnelbear" for example. These services, often free and always low-priced, protects your data by encrypting your Internet connection and masking your location by routing your computer through another country, such as Canada, Mexico and Germany. VPN's also make it possible for you to enjoy your HULU, NetFlix and other streaming radio, music and video services.
